Turki Al Sheikh, head of the Saudi Entertainment Authority, announced that his country will host the 2024 African Super Cup, which will bring together Al-Ahly and Zamalek.
Last week, indications of holding the match at the end of September appeared, and Egypt was the closest to hosting the Cairo derby in the New Administrative Capital.
Although Turki Al-Sheikh previously denied that Saudi Arabia was interested in hosting the match, things have changed in the past few days.
The Confederation of African Football signed an agreement with the Riyadh Season to host the African Super Cup for the second year in a row in Saudi Arabia.
The match is scheduled to be held on Friday, September 27, but the stadium for the match has not been determined, although it is most likely that it will be in the city of Riyadh, given that it is being held under the Riyadh Season platform.
Last year’s edition between Al-Ahly and Ittihad Al-Asimah was played in Taif, but given the overwhelming popularity of Al-Ahly and Zamalek, the match will either take place in Riyadh or in Jeddah.
It is noteworthy that Al-Ahly won the African Super Cup 8 times, but lost the title in the last edition, while Zamalek is the second most crowned champion on 4 previous occasions.
