Barcelona announced in an official statement that its goalkeeper Ter Stegen will be out of action for at least 7 or 8 months due to injury.
Stegen left the Villarreal match on Sunday crying and went to the hospital after a severe sprain in his foot, the seriousness of which was clear from the first glance.
According to Barca’s statement, Ter Stegen suffers from a complete tear in the patellar tendon in his right knee and will need to undergo surgery.
It has become certain that the German goalkeeper will not play again this season.
Thus, Barcelona will rely on substitute goalkeeper Inaki Pena at least until January until another goalkeeper is signed.
Stegen’s injury represents a major disappointment for him regarding the German national team, as the coach of the Mannschaft Julian Nagelsmann had considered him the first goalkeeper for the national team after the retirement of Manuel Neuer.
