Barcelona’s absence from the 2025 Club World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in the United States of America with the participation of 32 teams for the first time in history, has been confirmed.
Twelve teams are scheduled to represent the European continent in the tournament, which is expected to have record revenues and will be held in June 2025 in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.
Barcelona’s only hope for participating in the competition was to win the Champions League shield for this season, given its delayed classification due to its modest participation since 2020.
But the Catalan club bid farewell to the 2024 Champions League after losing to Paris Saint-Germain on aggregate 6-4, continuing its absence from the continental stages since 2015, and confirming its absence from the competition that Joan Laporta dreamed of in order to reap huge economic returns from it.
After Barcelona bid farewell to the Champions League, and although Atletico Madrid also bid farewell to the competition by losing to Borussia Dortmund, the Rojiblancos were officially guaranteed participation in the 2025 Club World Cup due to their classification.
So far, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter, Porto, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Atletico will participate on the European continent, and a vacant seat remains to be determined in the coming months.
