The Netherlands national team announced that Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has been excluded from the squad participating in Euro 2024 due to injury.
De Jong has been out of action since last April, when he was injured during the Real Madrid-Barcelona match at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
The 25-year-old recently returned from his injury, and participated in the Netherlands national team camp in preparation for the Euro, and things were going positively.
But according to the “Mills” announcement, De Jong’s ankle pain is still affecting him and he has not succeeded in fully recovering from his injury yet.
The Dutch Federation, in agreement with De Jong and Barcelona, decided that the player would return again to the Catalan club and not take the risk of being in the Euro with this injury.
De Jong fears that he will be biased against himself and the injury will worsen, and then he may not participate at the beginning of next season with Barca, so it was the best decision for everyone to exclude him from Euro 2024.
The player commented on his social media accounts, saying, “I feel sad and disappointed. Unfortunately, my ankle needs more time.”
