Chelsea announced in an official statement the signing of Marc Guiu from Barcelona for a five-year contract.
According to British media, Chelsea activated the release clause in the 18-year-old’s contract with Barcelona, which is worth only 5 million euros.
Despite Barcelona’s strenuous attempts to keep Guiu, the player ultimately chose Chelsea due to the difficulty of his participation with the Catalan club mainly.
Guiu spoke to Chelsea’s official website after announcing his transfer and said, “The main reason for my move to Chelsea is the sports project that the club offered me.”
He also added, “I feel confident with everyone inside Chelsea. Everything here excites me and motivates me to give my best.”
Guiu will be Chelsea’s third assignment this summer, after Omari Kylieman from Aston Villa and Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham.
It is noteworthy that Guiu scored two goals last season with Barcelona in 5 appearances between La Liga and the Champions League.
