Bayer Leverkusen officially won the German League title in its favor 5 rounds before the end, thanks to its victory over Werder Bremen 5-0 at the BayArena in the 29th round.
Leverkusen’s five goals came through Victor Boniface and Granit Xhaka, and Florian Wirtz scored three hat-trick goals, after which the fans took to the field to celebrate.
This title became the first Bundesliga title achieved by Leverkusen throughout its 120-year history.
Officially, the title became the first title in the career of Xabi Alonso, who is now aspiring to win the historic treble.
Leverkusen reached the German Cup final and will face Kaiserslautern, which is competing for relegation in the German second division, and is also on the cusp of the Europa League semi-finals.
Leverkusen will meet West Ham in England next Thursday in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals, noting that the first leg in Germany ended with Alonso’s team winning 2-0.
It remains to be noted that Alonso has confirmed that he will continue with Leverkusen next year, despite there being great interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich in obtaining his services next summer.
