Manchester United issued an official statement announcing that Ruud Van Nistelrooy will not work as an assistant to Ruben Amorim in training the Red Devils in the coming period.
United contracted with Van Nistelrooy last summer as an assistant to coach Erik ten Hag, and the latter was dismissed due to poor results and the legend of the English club was appointed as an interim coach to succeed him.
On Monday, Amorim began his duties as coach of United, who paid 15 million euros to sign him and his technical staff from Sporting Lisbon.
Van Nistelrooy has repeatedly stressed that he does not mind working as an assistant to Amorim, especially since his contract with United in this role extends for two years, while the Portuguese said that he must first have a clear conversation with the Dutchman to make a decision.
It seems that the conversation did not yield a positive result, as United announced the departure of Van Nistelrooy and his non-joining of the 39-year-old Amorim’s staff.
“Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club,” United said in a statement. “He will always be a club legend. We are grateful to him for everything he did during his time at the club as a player and manager, and he will always be welcome at Old Trafford.”
Van Nistelrooy has been in charge of Manchester United for the last four matches, winning 5-2 and 3-0 against Leicester City, drawing 1-1 with Chelsea and securing the Red Devils’ first European win of the season against PAOK 2-0.
