The German and Bayern Munich legend made his decision to retire from international football after the end of his participation with his country in Euro 2024.
Muller, 34 years old, has a historic career with Germany, where he played 131 matches, participated in 4 World Cups and 4 Euro Championships, and won the World Cup title in the 2014 edition.
As he grew older, Muller saw that it was time to make room for other young players, and he informed coach Julian Nagelsmann of the end of his journey with the national team immediately.
Muller said in a video he posted on his social media accounts, “I did not imagine that I would win those titles with the German national team. We have achieved many great victories, with some disappointments.”
He continued, “I will always be proud that I represented my country. I thank you all for everything, and now I return to the ranks of the fans to support you. Goodbye.”
It is noteworthy that Muller may not be the only German who will retire internationally, as press reports say that the duo Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gundogan are also studying the matter.
