The Competition Committee of the Spanish Football Federation has decided to impose a suspension on Vinícius Jr. following the red card he received in the match between Real Madrid and Valencia.
Real Madrid had appealed against the red card, considering it unjust given the provocation by Valencia’s goalkeeper, Stole Dimitrievski, amid a broader campaign against refereeing decisions.
There were speculations that if Vinícius’ actions were deemed an assault on the goalkeeper and improper conduct towards the referee, his suspension could extend up to 12 matches.
Ultimately, Vinícius was handed a two-match suspension, applicable only in La Liga, thus confirming the Brazilian star’s participation in the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.
The 24-year-old will miss the upcoming matches against Las Palmas and Valladolid, with his return scheduled for the game against Espanyol on February 2.
It is worth noting that Real Madrid will face RCD Mallorca on Thursday in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal. If they win, they will prepare to face the winner of the Barcelona vs. Athletic Bilbao match in the final on Sunday.
