The Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee has announced its decision regarding Osasuna’s protest regarding Inigo Martinez’s participation in the La Liga match against Barcelona.
Martinez had been ruled out of the Spanish national team due to injury, but played against Osasuna a few days later, which is considered a violation of FIFA’s rules regarding the time required for a player to return to action.
Osasuna filed a protest, demanding the three points from the match, which Barcelona won 3-0 at the Estadio Olimpico Lluís Companys.
On Friday, the Disciplinary Committee responded after examining the case. Osasuna’s protest was rejected and Barcelona’s victory was upheld, considering Inigo Martinez’s participation was legal.
According to the statement issued by the committee, Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation followed all proper legal procedures when excluding Martinez from the Spanish national team, and therefore there was no violation of the rules in this regard.
Thus, Barcelona maintains a four-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, with only eight rounds remaining.
