The Tunisian Football Federation announced the termination of Faouzi Benzarti’s contract as coach of the Tunisian national team by mutual consent between the two parties.
Benzarti took over the coaching of the “Carthage Eagles” last July, and only managed 4 matches, the last of which was during the current October break.
The 74-year-old veteran coach did not achieve the desired results, after losing to the Comoros Islands and drawing with them in another match this month in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Before that, Tunisia won two matches with Benzarti against Madagascar 1-0 and Gambia 2-1.
As a result of the negative results that put Tunisia’s qualification for the next “CAN” in jeopardy, and in light of the harsh criticism the coach was subjected to, the two parties agreed to terminate the contract by mutual consent.
The Tunisian Federation did not announce the identity of the new coach, but it is expected to be announced within a few days given the training camps awaiting the national team.
Tunisia will meet Madagascar and Gambia in the last two rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November. Tunisia leads its group with 7 points, one point ahead of Comoros, while Gambia is third with 5 points and Madagascar is at the bottom with 2 points.
