Paris Saint-Germain knock Liverpool out of the Champions League on penalties

Liverpool bid farewell to the Champions League early in the round of 16, after Paris Saint-Germain defeated them on penalties at Anfield.

Liverpool had topped the league stage with a perfect score and were unbeaten, while Paris Saint-Germain had to play the play-offs and qualified at the expense of Brest to face Arne Slot’s squad.

The Reds won the first leg at the Parc des Princes with a goal by Herve Elliott, and in the second leg, PSG equalized through Ousmane Dembele.

The match remained tied until the end of extra time, and the penalty shootout was resorted to to determine the identity of the qualifier for the quarter-finals.

Mohamed Salah was the only player who managed to score from Liverpool, while the duo Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones missed.

Paris Saint-Germain scored all four of their kicks, and qualified for the quarter-finals very deservedly.

Coach Luis Enrique’s side will await the winner of the match between Aston Villa and Club Brugge in the quarter-finals, noting that the English club won the first leg in Belgium 3-1.
