The coach of the Dutch national team, Ronald Koeman, opened the door for Memphis Depay to join the mills in the coming period despite his transfer to Corinthians in Brazil, and completely opposite to what he did with Bergwijn.
Koeman himself had announced that Bergwijn would not play for the Dutch national team again as long as he is the team’s coach due to his transfer to the Saudi Al-Ittihad club.
When Koeman was asked about repeating the same thing with Depay, considering that the Brazilian league is not strong and it does not seem that the player moved to it for sporting reasons, the coach’s response was surprising and many considered it “racist”.
Koeman said, “I rejected Bergwijn’s transfer to Saudi Arabia, but with Depay the situation is different.”
He also added, “The level of the Brazilian league is different (from Saudi Arabia), so yes, Depay can be part of the Dutch national team in the future.”
He concluded, “It depends on his physical fitness and whether he will be able to maintain his level or not.”
