Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya believes that the amazing save he made in his team’s match against Atalanta is not the best of his career.
The Spanish international saved a penalty kick, then made another legendary save when Matteo Retegui tried to head the rebound into the net.
Raya spoke about this save by saying: “I was lucky to go in the right direction and save the ball, I was quick and I was able to get up and save the situation.”
He added: “The save was great, without a doubt, but it’s not the best of my career, I think it’s one of my top three saves.”
He concluded: “The referee took a long time to decide on the penalty, so I went to the Arsenal goalkeeping coach and he helped me figure out which way the Atalanta player would shoot.”
In turn, coach Mikel Arteta praised Raya’s fantastic save and considered it “the best he has seen in his career”.
The Spaniard said, “I don’t know if it is the best save in the world but it was exceptional for us, that’s for sure”.
He concluded, “Raya was very important for us last season and he started this season exceptionally and kept us in the game against Atalanta thanks to this save”.
It is worth noting that the Arsenal and Atalanta match in the Champions League ended in a goalless draw.
