Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos has decided to wear the number 93 shirt in his new journey with Monterrey.
The Spanish international had just signed a two-year contract with the Mexican club, and everyone was surprised by his choice of the number 93 shirt as it is an unusual number.
The 38-year-old later explained that this number is in honor of the 93rd minute in which he scored the equalizer for Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final.
Ramos’ goal was the reason for resorting to extra time, in which Real scored 3 more goals and was crowned with the tenth Champions League in its history after an 11-year absence from the continental platforms.
Real Madrid commented on its historic captain’s choice of this number through a message on the X website: “Sergio Ramos will join Monterrey, the number chosen by one of our club’s legends is 93, in honor of all Real Madrid fans, it is the number of the minute that changed our history.”
The Merengue account added, “We will always be grateful to you, Ramos, and we wish you all the best and success.”
It is worth noting that Ramos will participate in the 2025 Club World Cup with Monterrey, and he could face Real Madrid if his team succeeds in passing the group stage and reaching the advanced stages.
