Real Madrid Turns to Surprise Option to Bolster Defense

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Real Madrid’s management is currently exploring options to bolster the center-back position in the ongoing summer transfer window after failing to sign Leny Yoro, who joined Manchester United.

The first option Real Madrid’s management considered was Aymeric Laporte, but the Spanish international is unlikely to join due to his high salary at Al Nassr, and the Saudi club is not willing to sell him except for a large financial fee.

Now the most popular option on the table for Florentino Perez’s management is veteran German defender Mats Hummels, who can join any club for free after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired at the end of last season.

Hummels has not yet reached an agreement with any club, although his name has recently been linked with Bologna to replace Riccardo Calafiori, who has moved to Arsenal.

In recent hours, Hummels has been a topic of discussion within Real Madrid’s offices. Despite his age, the player had a great season with Dortmund and is considered one of the best defenders in the world.

The 35-year-old would not mind signing for Real Madrid for a year on a low salary, and it would not cost the Spanish club’s coffers much, making it a realistic and viable option. However, Florentino Perez’s management has not yet made a final decision in this regard.
