Spanish media reported that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has decided on who will be the goalkeeper for the Royal Club in the Champions League final.
Thibaut Courtois has just returned from two injuries that kept him out of action since last August, while Andriy Lunin has been the one mainly protecting the Merengue’s den since last January.
Despite his late return this season, Courtois excelled a lot in the matches he played in La Liga, which made Real Madrid officials consider making him a starter against Dortmund and taking advantage of that.
According to the “El Chiringuito” program, Ancelotti’s decision has now become to support the previous idea and to rely on Courtois as the main goalkeeper for Real Madrid in the match with Borussia Dortmund on June 1.
Ancelotti, as well as the Real Madrid management, appreciate everything that Lunin has provided, but there is belief within the Santiago Bernabeu that Courtois is the best goalkeeper in the world, and his presence will give the team greater confidence and enhance the chances of winning the title.
It remains ambiguous how Lunin will deal with the matter, especially since he is currently in negotiations to renew his contract with Real Madrid, and a step like this will confirm that he has no chance of participating in the next season.
