The “Relevo” network confirmed that Real Madrid players have begun discussing the name of Carlo Ancelotti’s successor in coaching the Royal Club, and they are all certain that it will be Xabi Alonso, the current coach of Bayer Leverkusen.
The Spanish coach had the opportunity to head to Liverpool or Bayern Munich next summer, but he surprised everyone by announcing that he would remain with the Bundesliga leaders until at least the summer of 2025.
According to the network, several discussions have recently taken place between various Real Madrid players about Alonso being the next Real Madrid coach, and that the coach rejected Liverpool and Bayern for the sake of the Merengue.
The media had already reported earlier that Alonso’s basic plan was to wait for Ancelotti’s departure and then coach Real Madrid, especially since he is highly regarded by the club’s president, Florentio Perez.
It seems that these ideas have also leaked to Real Madrid players, who, despite the extension of Ancelotti’s contract to the summer of 2026, realize that next season may be his last at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid can sign Alonso next summer for approximately 15 million euros, according to the release clause in the coach’s contract with Leverkusen, which extends until the summer of 2027.
Spanish newspapers confirm that Perez had previously contacted Alonso and expressed his admiration for what he was offering, and indirectly sent to him that he would be Ancelotti’s successor in coaching Real Madrid in the future.
