La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that FIFA may make a surprise decision to cancel the 2025 Club World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States.
FIFA announced earlier this year the cancellation of the Club World Cup in its traditional annual form and its transformation into the Intercontinental Cup with a new system.
At the same time, a Club World Cup will be held every 4 years with the participation of 32 teams from around the world and huge financial returns.
According to the latest report, FIFA is facing 3 real crises that may cause the cancellation of the tournament that is highly anticipated by fans.
The first crisis is the lack of any offers for television broadcasting of the competition and with it the lack of guaranteeing large revenues for the tournament, while the second comes due to the United States not confirming the stadiums in which the matches will be held.
The biggest problem is that the timing of the tournament (late June to mid-July) conflicts with the contracts of many players, some of which expire on June 30, and thus there will be a legal problem between the clubs and their players.
At the same time, some clubs remain against the idea of holding the tournament, while FIFA itself feels that the tournament will cost it a lot and does not guarantee good organization or huge revenues, all of which are reasons that make the idea of cancellation very likely.
