Despite his assertion that Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best in history, Rodri spontaneously belittled the Portuguese star when compared to Lionel Messi.
Rodri, the latest Ballon d’Or winner, is taking advantage of his long absence from the pitch due to injury and doing several TV interviews, the latest of which was with the “El Hormiguero” program.
The Manchester City star did not need to think much when asked about the best player in football history, as he said, “Without a doubt, it is Messi.”
He continued about the comparison with Ronaldo, “We were afraid of Ronaldo entering the penalty area because he is always decisive there, but with Messi the situation is different.”
He continued, “The danger with Messi happens anywhere on the pitch. Ronaldo was able to reach Messi’s level even though he did not have the same innate talent. We, the players who played against them, know the difference between them very well.”
He concluded, “When Messi received the ball anywhere on the pitch, we knew that danger was coming. As soon as he touched the ball, you felt that something bad was going to happen to your team.”
It is noteworthy that Rodri revealed in the same interview that he is likely to catch up with some matches this season if the recovery journey goes well, and he expects to participate in the 2025 Club World Cup or the final stage of the European Nations League with the Spanish national team.
