English football legend, Wayne Rooney, took to praising Spain star Nico Williams, to the point of comparing him to Cristiano Ronaldo when he was young.
The 19-year-old Williams played a major role in leading Spain to reach the final of the Euro, along with Lamin Yamal, who reminded Rooney of himself in Euro 2004.
“Williams is an exceptional player and reminds me of Cristiano Ronaldo when he was young,” Rooney said in a column in The Times newspaper.
He also added, “He is a young player who has all the characteristics of a great player and poses a threat to any defense in the world. He has the ability to score from half-time and has great quality.”
As for Yamal, he said, “He has great confidence after his goal in France, and he reminds me a little of myself when I was at Euro 2004.”
It remains to be noted that Rooney praised his country’s star, Kobe Maino, but asked him to play more defensive roles in the Euro final for fear of the brilliant duo of Williams and Yamal.
