Mohamed Salah expressed his amazement at how Ian Rush scored 346 goals for Liverpool, indicating that it is impossible to equal this achievement and become the Reds’ all-time top scorer one day.
The Egyptian star rose in the ranking of Liverpool’s all-time top scorers to become fourth after his two goals against Tottenham, reaching goal number 229 over 8 years at Anfield.
Salah was asked about the possibility of becoming Liverpool’s all-time top scorer, to which he jokingly replied, “Honestly, I don’t know how Rush scored such a large number of goals.”
He also added, “I feel that football at that time was played as if it was 7 against 7 and not actually 11 against 11.”
He concluded, “Rush is a great Liverpool legend and my relationship with him is good, so whatever number I reach at the end of my career with Liverpool, I will be happy and proud of it.”
Salah’s next target will be to reach third place, which does not seem far-fetched, as he needs only 12 goals to equal the legend Gordon Hodgson, while second place is occupied by Roger Hunt with 285 goals, which is certainly the most difficult goal at the moment.
