Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed that Lionel Messi wants to participate with his country in the 2026 World Cup.
Some speculations were that Messi might retire internationally or in general before the World Cup and be satisfied with his historic achievement with the silver country in the 2022 World Cup.
In media statements, Scaloni said about that, “The time is still long until the World Cup, and we will see how things will go until then with Messi and how his condition will be at the tournament.”
He also added, “What I know is that Messi wants to continue and participate in the 2026 World Cup, we will see what happens.”
He concluded, “It is also the right moment to give the opportunity to some young players who have not yet received it. Certainly, there is a base for this team, but why don’t we think about including young names who can add to us.”
It is noteworthy that Messi has taken steps that confirm Scaloni’s talk, as he is about to renew his contract with Inter Miami for another year, and thus, unless injuries befall him, he will participate in the World Cup in America, Mexico and Canada.
