Inter President Stephen Zhang announced that his club is in the process of renewing the contract of coach Simone Inzaghi, following the exceptional season enjoyed by the Nerazzurri.
Inzaghi succeeded in leading Inter to win the Italian League title with consistent and distinguished levels, despite his failure in Europe by exiting the Champions League in the round of 16 on penalties against Atletico Madrid.
In the past months, Inzaghi has been linked to coaching Liverpool, and some reports strongly suggested that he is the chosen man to succeed Jurgen Klopp after he convinced everyone of his exceptional abilities as a coach.
But Zhang, in press statements, dashed the Reds’ hopes of including the Italian coach, as he said, “There are no doubts about that. Inzaghi continues with us.”
He also added, “He is an excellent coach. I can confirm that Inzaghi will remain with us, as he is a very key part of our project.”
Inzaghi is not the first option that Liverpool has made and failed to include. The first choice was previously Xabi Alonso, before the Spaniard decided to continue coaching Bayer Leverkusen next season.
The English media have indicated that the current Sporting Lisbon coach, Ruben Amorim, is the closest choice to take over the technical leadership at Anfield.
