CONMEBOL decided to extend the break between the two halves of the match between Argentina and Colombia in the 2024 Copa America final to 25 minutes to conduct an artistic performance by the famous singer Shakira.
Colombia national team coach, Nestor Lorenzo, expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision, stressing that it will cause a technical problem for both teams and the match format may be reduced because of it.
FIFA rules stipulate that the break period lasts only 15 minutes, and clubs or teams are punished if they are a few minutes late in entering the second half.
In this regard, Lorezno said, “I hope you enjoy Shakira, but I really can’t understand it. I was hoping the match would be like other football matches.”
He also added, “Players can catch a cold by waiting this long, and this applies to the two teams, not just Colombia. I just discovered that.”
It is noteworthy that CONMEBOL has punished the teams of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Venezuela for delaying the halftime break during the Copa America, and it is astonishing Lorenzo now after the decision to extend the break in the final in the eyes of Shakira.
