Egyptian media outlets have reported that Zamalek captain Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala has decided to retire from football at the end of the current season.
The 39-year-old’s contract with Zamalek expires at the end of this season, and the club’s management gave him the choice of continuing for another year or retiring in June. It appears he has opted for the latter.
Shikabala has been suffering from significant injuries recently due to his advanced age, and in light of the numerous crises within Zamalek, he sees this as the ideal opportunity to conclude his historic career with the White Knights.
It is reported that the “Black Panther” has already informed Hussein Labib’s management of his decision, and that the club intends to hold a grand tribute for him and play a farewell match against a major European team before the end of this year.
Shikabala is the most decorated player in Zamalek’s history, with 17 titles, the most recent of which was the CAF Super Cup against Al-Ahly in Saudi Arabia.
The Zamalek legend hopes to end his career with another title, as the Whites are still competing on three levels: the Egyptian Premier League, the Confederation Cup, and the Egypt Cup.
