Al-Ahly’s list for the Orlando Pirates match in the African Champions League did not include the name of goalkeeper Mustafa Shobier in an unexpected surprise.
Shobier was the Red Devils’ goalkeeper in the last Al-Bank Al-Ahly match, and made more than one wonderful save and was one of the reasons why Al-Ahly did not lose in its fourth match in the Egyptian League this season.
While Shobier was absent from the list heading to South Africa, captain and main goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shennawy recorded his return after being excluded from the Al-Bank Al-Ahly match to rest him, according to coach Marcel Koller.
According to an official announcement from Al-Ahly, there is no truth to what was reported that Shobier refused to sit on the bench for El-Shennawy and that this is the reason for his exclusion from the Orlando Pirates match.
Al-Ahly, through its doctor, confirmed that Shobier is suffering from a second-degree hamstring injury that prevented him from traveling with the Al-Ahly mission to South Africa.
The goalkeeper will undergo a rehabilitation program in the coming period until he completes his recovery before traveling to Qatar to face the winner of the Derby of the Americas, on December 14 in the semi-finals of the Intercontinental Cup.
It remains to be noted that Imam Ashour has returned to Al-Ahly’s list again after his absence against Al-Ahly Bank, following his apology to Al-Shennawy and Al-Ahly’s management for the dispute that occurred after the Stade d’Abidjan match.
Al-Ahly leads its group in the African Champions League on goal difference over Orlando Pirates after both won the first round match against Stade d’Abidjan and Chabab Belouizdad.
