Spanish press reports indicated that Barcelona will not return to play at the Spotify Camp Nou stadium in 2024, contrary to the previously set plan.
Until last week, Barça president, Joan Laporta, confirmed that work on renovating Camp Nou was proceeding as planned and the team could return to play there before the end of 2024, as per the schedule.
However, according to the latest reports, Laporta’s words are inaccurate, and the Blaugrana’s historic stadium is not ready to host any matches during the current year.
Initially, Camp Nou is not expected to be ready to host matches again before February 2025, unless the delivery is postponed again until April of the same year.
In any case, when the Camp Nou stadium hosts Barça matches, it will only allow 64,000 spectators, while the official capacity is supposed to exceed 90,000.
The company is trying to speed up the work to the point of obtaining a security permit to work for 24 hours, for fear of delaying the delivery date and paying huge sums to Barcelona’s management.
Thus, Barcelona will continue to play at the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys at least until the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and may only play the last third of La Liga in its historic stronghold.
