Real Madrid and Barcelona face the risk of not participating in the Champions League or any continental competition next season, by decision of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
According to the AS newspaper, FIFA and UEFA accuse the Spanish Sports Supreme Council, led by Jose Manuel Rodriguez Uribe, of government interference in the Football Association.
FIFA rules in this regard are very strict, prohibiting government intervention, and as part of the sanctions, activity is suspended and clubs are prohibited from participating in continental competitions.
The Supreme Sports Council is expected to respond no later than next Friday, to reveal the legality of appointing a temporary committee to lead the Spanish Federation without actual government intervention.
Based on this response, the position of FIFA and UEFA will be determined and the possibility of imposing sanctions will also include excluding the Spanish national team from participating in Euro 2024 in Germany.
The sanctions will not stop there, as there is a possibility that if there is government interference proven, Spain will be excluded from the file of organizing the 2023 World Cup along with Morocco and Portugal.
