Despite numerous attempts by top clubs to sign Xavi Simons after his impressive performance at Euro 2024, the player has opted to stay for another year with Leipzig, according to Sky Sports.
Simons spent the past year on loan at Leipzig and refused to return to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, amid significant interest, particularly from Bayern Munich to sign him.
Although it seemed that Bayern was prepared to pay more than €70 million to secure the player’s services, Simons ultimately chose to continue with Leipzig.
Leipzig will acquire Simons’ services on loan for a year after the player gave the green light for the deal, and Paris Saint-Germain does not object as they were initially unwilling to sell him for less than €90 million.
It is unknown whether Leipzig will include a purchase option next summer, although this is unlikely, as PSG officials have clearly expressed that the 21-year-old is part of the French club’s future.
It’s worth noting that Barcelona was also interested in signing Simons at the beginning of the summer before the Catalans shifted their focus to the duo Dani Olmo and Nico Williams.
