Liverpool manager Arne Slot expressed his disappointment after the Reds were eliminated from the FA Cup by Plymouth after a 1-0 defeat in the fourth round.
The Dutch coach considered the defeat deserved and that his opponents played a very good match, while describing this loss as a “setback”.
Slot said: “Plymouth played a great match. Their game plan was good and they deserve all the credit for their performance today. We were not at our best today.”
He added: “I don’t think I can say that the players did not fight, they fought for 100 minutes. I think neither team created many chances, and the match was decided by a goal from a correct penalty.”
He continued: “I wasn’t completely surprised because we knew that they would rely on long balls and rebounds, and they were very aggressive as expected. It’s not always easy to create chances, especially if the team doesn’t play together much. But we expected our players to play a better match.”
“It’s a painful loss for everyone, for all Liverpool fans, for me and the players. We all wanted to continue in this competition for as long as possible, and to go out early is a real setback.”
