Slot refuses to compare Salah to Messi and Ronaldo

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has refused to compare Mohamed Salah to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, praising the Egyptian international’s performance this season and stressing his high chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.

Salah is the only player in the top five leagues to have more than 50 goal contributions this season, and he leads the Premier League’s top scorers by 6 goals from his closest pursuers.

When asked about comparing the Egyptian king to the legends Messi and Ronaldo, Slot said, “It’s very difficult to compare players, he’s not like anyone, and it’s unfair to put Salah in the comparison.”

As for Salah winning the Ballon d’Or, he replied, “If we win a championship as a team this season, he’ll have a much better chance of winning the Ballon d’Or this year.”

He continued, “I don’t mean the Champions League, Rodri didn’t win it with City last year and won the award. Salah knows that winning a championship will help him win the Ballon d’Or, and that’s a good thing.”

“The better he gets, the more expensive he becomes. I hope he signs a new contract with us and continues his success at Liverpool,” he said of the 32-year-old’s contract renewal.

Salah’s next challenge will be against Newcastle on Wednesday in the Premier League, before preparing for a fiery clash with Paris Saint-Germain next week in the Champions League round of 16.
