Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has denounced Barcelona’s management’s concern over Lamine Yamal’s participation with “La Roja” for fear of tiring him out.
Yamal played in Euro 2024 and then rested for only 3 weeks, after which he played all of Barcelona’s matches in La Liga, before returning to Spain to participate in the European Nations League.
Barcelona fears that Yamal’s fate will be the same as Pedri’s, as he is constantly plagued by muscle injuries due to playing so many matches.
De la Fuente responded to that by saying, “Barcelona are lucky to have a player of this level and to play this number of matches with the national team.”
He also added, “We are doing what we have to do and representing our country. If he is not able to play 180 minutes and we are still in September, let’s close the matter and go.”
He concluded, “Spain has a great reputation to defend, and I protect all players. I cannot do that with a player because he plays for a certain club. That would be far from fair.”
