Summer 2024 Surprise: Atletico Madrid Signs City Star for Nearly €100 Million

Atletico Madrid has finalized a deal with Manchester City to sign Julian Alvarez in a transfer that could reach a value of €95 million.

The Spanish club is looking to replace Alvaro Morata who moved to Milan, and has already successfully signed Alexander Sorloth. Now, they have secured a deal that is expected to completely change the course of the team.

Alvarez had previously stated that he wanted to play more for Manchester City, which angered Pep Guardiola, who said that anyone who wanted to leave could do so.

According to Sky Sports, Atletico Madrid will pay City €75 million as a fixed transfer fee, with €20 million in variables depending on the Argentine’s individual and collective successes with the Rojiblancos.

Negotiations are still ongoing between Alvarez’s camp and Atletico Madrid to reach an agreement on personal terms, after the player already expressed his willingness to join Diego Simeone’s squad.

It remains unknown whether Manchester City will enter the market in search of a replacement for Alvarez, or if they will be satisfied with their current squad, represented by Erling Haaland as the main striker.

It’s worth noting that Alvarez joined Manchester City from River Plate for only €23 million in the summer of 2022, and since then he has scored 36 goals and provided 18 assists in 108 matches across all competitions.
