Surprise: Mahmoud El Khatib’s era at Al Ahly is coming to an end, and this is the most likely successor!

It appears that Mahmoud El Khatib’s era as president of Al Ahly is coming to an end, following a new amendment approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The Sports Law previously did not prevent a club chairman from running for more than two terms. However, the new amendment, which will be submitted to the House of Representatives in the coming weeks, will reinstate the famous eight-year clause.

El Khatib assumed the presidency of Al Ahly in 2017, and his confidence was renewed in 2021. Therefore, his second term will end in 2025, making him legally ineligible to run again for the presidency of the Red Castle.

According to Egyptian media, the famous billionaire Yassin Mansour intends to run for the presidency of Al Ahly in the upcoming elections, scheduled to be held between October and November.

Mansour served as head of Al Ahly’s football company before resigning two years ago. He has extensive administrative experience at Al Ahly, in addition to his investments in football outside Egypt, including the American club San Diego.

Yassin Mansour’s task of winning the Al Ahly elections will not be easy, as current treasurer Khaled Mortagy is also expected to run for president, which would make the competition extremely intense.
