Barcelona’s squad list for the match against Valencia has omitted the name of the club’s star player, Ilkay Gundogan, despite his physical fitness.
Hansi Flick announced the squad that will travel to Mestalla to open Barca’s La Liga season with a tough match against Valencia.
According to the newspaper “Sport”, the reason for Gundogan’s absence is a blow to the eyebrow he suffered during the friendly match against Monaco in the Joan Gamper Trophy, which Barca lost 3-0.
Although the matter is not serious, Flick preferred to exclude Gundogan from the Valencia match as a precautionary measure to prevent the injury from worsening.
At the same time, the German coach excluded the duo Clement Lenglet and Vitor Roque, in a new indication of their imminent departure from Camp Nou.
The good news for Barca was the return of Pedri after recovering from his Euro injury to his knee, although it is expected that he will not start and will only come on as a substitute in the second half.
It should be noted that Barcelona’s only summer signing, Dani Olmo, is not in the squad for the Valencia match due to not being registered, and according to Flick, also for technical reasons.
