The newspaper “Le Parisien” revealed that Paris Saint-Germain tried to sign Mohamed Salah in the summer of 2017, had it not been for a Qatari political decision that stopped things.
The French newspaper quoted coach Unai Emery as confirming that Salah, after his brilliance with Roma, was of interest to PSG in 2017, and that his club was already in negotiations with the Egyptian star.
According to the newspaper’s sources, the agreement between Paris Saint-Germain and Salah had already been reached in 2017, and perhaps if he had moved at that time, Neymar would have stayed in Barcelona or Kylian Mbappe would not have joined from Monaco.
However, what hindered the deal was a “veto” from the club’s owners in Qatar due to the political crisis at the time between the Gulf state and some Arab countries, including Egypt.
Despite the failure of the deal at the time, the relationship still exists between Salah, 32, and the president of the French club, Nasser Al-Khelaifi.
However, Salah remains out of Paris Saint-Germain’s plans next summer, by a technical decision from coach Luis Enrique.
It is worth noting that Al-Khelaifi had previously confirmed his great appreciation for Salah, but stressed that there was no intention to sign him next summer despite the ease of the deal, considering that the “Egyptian King’s” contract with Liverpool expires in June.
