Marca newspaper reported that Real Madrid’s management decided to change the name of the club’s historic stadium, Santiago Bernabeu, for marketing reasons.
The Santiago Bernabeu stadium was established in 1947 under the new name Chamartin, then changed to its current name in 1955 to bear the name of the historic president of the royal club.
According to the report, Real Madrid’s management decided to call the stadium “Bernabeu” only, for marketing and commercial reasons, and also to obtain new sponsors after changing the name.
Perhaps Real Madrid’s management is thinking of selling the name rights as Barcelona did in the stadium and it became “Spotify Camp Nou”, and with the name Bernabeu only, it will be easier and will bring more money to the capital club’s coffers.
So far, Real Madrid has not officially announced this step, but it is expected that the club will issue a statement on the matter in the coming few weeks.
The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is an architectural masterpiece after its latest development from 2020 to 2022. It can accommodate 80,000 spectators and is likely to host the 2030 World Cup final.
