Barcelona coach Hansi Flick refused to announce who will be Barcelona’s goalkeeper in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final against Real Madrid.
Iñaki Pena has been Barcelona’s starting goalkeeper since Ter Stegen’s injury, but he was ruled out of the semi-final against Athletic Bilbao after being late for a technical lecture.
Szczesny performed remarkably against Bilbao and managed to keep a clean sheet, which increased the uncertainty about whether Flick will decide to keep him or bring Pena back.
According to the newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”, Flick decided to have Szczesny participate in the Real Madrid match.
The German coach was impressed by Szczesny’s professionalism and readiness when needed, and he believes that stability and his continuation against Real is the best option at the moment.
So far, Szczesny has not conceded in two matches with Barça, the first in the cup against Barbastro, which Barcelona won 3-0, and the other against Bilbao last Wednesday.
