La Liga president Javier Tebas challenged Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti to carry out his latest threat after the Villarreal match.
The Italian had strongly complained about the scheduling of the Villarreal match less than 72 hours after Real Madrid’s Champions League match against Atlético Madrid.
Ancelotti said, “This is the last time we’ll play a match with less than 72 hours of rest.”
Tebas, in turn, mocked Ancelotti, writing on his X account, “Carlo… Emilio (Butragueño) must have told you that La Liga had scheduled the Leganés match for next week’s match, scheduled for Saturday at 4:15 PM, to give you more rest before the Copa del Rey semifinal against Real Sociedad.”
He added, “But Emilio asked the league’s competitions director to change the time to 9:00 PM. He certainly did this with your knowledge and consent—I imagine—for the benefit of the players returning from the international break.”
He concluded, sarcastically and defiantly, “Now we have less than 72 hours between the final whistle of Saturday’s match and the start of the semi-finals on Tuesday! Let the best team qualify for the final! Best regards.”
