Barcelona officials are concerned about the injury sustained by Robert Lewandowski during the Catalan club’s match against Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday.
The Polish international left the field due to pain in the second half of the match, which ended in a thrilling 4-3 victory for Barça.
According to journalist Javi Miguel of AS, initial tests have confirmed that Lewandowski has suffered a muscle tear, which means he will be out for a long time.
If this diagnosis is confirmed, Lewandowski will initially miss the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid, scheduled for next Saturday in Andalusia.
Currently, talk within Barcelona is that Lewandowski’s absence will extend to three weeks, which would almost certainly mean the end of his season unless Barça reaches the Champions League final.
Lewandowski’s injury is a major blow to Barcelona, as he is the Catalan club’s leading scorer with 40 goals in 48 matches in all competitions.
With the 36-year-old absent, Ferran Torres is expected to be the most likely replacement for him as a striker, whether in El Clasico or for the rest of the season.
