It seems that the old days of football will return in press conferences, after Pep Guardiola’s recent words about his desire to avoid the fate of his usual rival Jose Mourinho.
Guardiola had pointed to the number 6 to Liverpool fans after they mocked him during the Reds’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Anfield in the English Premier League.
This gesture is very similar to what Jose Mourinho did to the fans when he was the coach of Manchester United and things went wrong, and he ended up being sacked and then his career declined greatly in recent years.
Guardiola was asked about this comparison and that what he did may be a prelude to the beginning of the collapse of his career as happened to Mourinho, to which he replied, “I hope my fate is not like this.”
He added, “In the end, maybe me and Jose are exactly the same, but he won three titles (Premier League) and I won the title six times.”
“It seems the same, so he and I are similar in this situation now, it’s just that we are trying in this case to make the fans feel that we are much better than they think we are.”
It is not expected that Guardiola’s words will pass unnoticed by Mourinho, who is known for his fiery statements, unless the Portuguese, who is currently coaching Fenerbahce, decides to make a surprising reaction and support the Spaniard against criticism.
The war between Guardiola and Mourinho was at its most intense between 2009 and 2015, but since the Special One took over Manchester United and the other Manchester City, they have been friendly and exchanged nice statements despite the competition.
