Inter Miami coach Tata Martino announced that Lionel Messi suffered a new injury during his team’s match against Nashville in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Al-Barghout participated in his team’s 3-1 win, qualifying for the quarter-finals of the competition, but he left at the end of the match due to injury.
Martino told the media after the match, “We did not need to risk Messi. He suffered from muscle overload in the right thigh.”
He also added, “He was in pain throughout the second half. We tried to keep him on the field longer, but he couldn’t, so we took him out and did not risk him.”
According to the Argentine coach, it is certain that the 36-year-old will miss Inter Miami’s next match against DC United, but the full duration of his absence is still unknown.
