The member of the Clubs Association, Tharwat Sweilem, explained the splitting of the new shield of the Egyptian League during Al-Ahly’s celebrations of winning the title.
While Al-Ahly captain Mohamed El-Shennawy tried to raise the new shield, its base broke, which caused great mockery towards the Clubs Association after the huge cost of the shield manufactured in London.
Sweilem justified what happened by saying, “The shield separated from its base.”
He also added, “The design company did not know that the shield could be carried in a different way.”
He concluded, “El-Shennawy’s raising of the shield from the top resulted in the base falling. These things were possible at the beginning and we will avoid them later.”
As for the fate of the old shield of the Egyptian League, he said, “It will be displayed in the Football Association Museum in its new headquarters in the Al-Hadaf project, and this museum will be opened soon.”
