Despite stumbling to a draw with Le Havre in the 31st round on Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain claimed the French League shield following Monaco’s 3-2 loss to Lyon on Sunday.
This is the third time in a row that PSG has won the French League title and continues its almost absolute dominance over the local competition. Three years ago, Lille was the last to succeed before the capital club in winning the title.
Winning the 2024 edition of the French League is Paris Saint-Germain’s twelfth historic title in the competition, two titles ahead of the closest rivals, Saint-Etienne, and three more than Marseille.
In general, this is the second championship achieved by Luis Enrique as coach of Paris Saint-Germain, after he won the French Super Cup at the beginning of this season.
Winning the league may be an ideal farewell for Kylian Mbappe to Paris, after the player decided to leave at the end of this season and move to Real Madrid.
Winning the title is Mbappe’s sixth win in the French League with Paris Saint-Germain, and the seventh in his career (he won the title with Monaco in 2017).
It is noteworthy that Paris still has the opportunity to achieve the historic treble, as the team will play in the Cup final against Rennes, and will also play in the Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.
