Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim has opened the door to taking over as Liverpool coach next season, succeeding Jurgen Klopp.
Amorim’s name appeared on the Reds’ table in recent days after Xabi Alonso announced that he would continue to coach Bayer Leverkusen next season.
The 39-year-old coach, who is nicknamed “the new Mourinho,” succeeded in leading Sporting to reach the Portuguese Cup final, and was then asked about the possibility of leaving for Anfield.
Amorim responded to this with a vague answer, but it expresses that the idea is possible, as he said, “Let us see what happens in the coming period.”
Liverpool can sign Amorim in exchange for paying 10 million euros, which is the value of the penalty clause in his contract with Lisbon, which extends for another two years.
It is noteworthy that Amorim, although proud of Mourinho’s new title, adopts an attacking approach that makes him closer to Klopp in practice, which fits perfectly with Liverpool.
