Social media has not stopped publishing evidence that Cristiano Ronaldo’s relationship with Joao Cancelo within the Portugal national team is very bad.
This is not the first time such things have been said, as news spread about how bad their relationship was due to Cancelo not shaking hands with Don during Portugal’s camp for the 2022 World Cup.
This time, it appears that the Barcelona star deliberately did not pass the ball to Ronaldo on more than one occasion during Portugal’s 2-0 friendly loss to Slovenia last week.
Many linked Cancelo’s decisions on the field to statements he made previously in which he meant that Ronaldo was “finished” since he had passed the age of 32.
Cancelo said, “Ronaldo’s ideal period was between 25 and 32 years old, and now the national team no longer relies on him as completely as in the past.”
Cancelo’s previous and recent statements and actions confirm that he is not in complete agreement with Ronaldo, which paves the way for a crisis that may occur within Roberto Martinez’s squad before the start of Euro 2024.
Unless the duo is injured, it is expected that they will be at the top of Portugal’s Euro list, but the differences between them may force Martinez to often oust Cancelo or at least keep him on the bench.
