A video clip showed the real reasons for the expulsion of Real Madrid and Osasuna referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero to Merengue star Jude Bellingham.
Without Bellingham making a mistake or anything noteworthy, Montero showed him the red card in the 39th minute, which made Real complete the match with 10 players.
The Spanish media published a video revealing what happened, and what exactly Bellingham said that led to the referee’s anger and showing him the red card.
In fact, the reason for Bellingham’s expulsion is that the referee does not understand English well!
Bellingham said to the referee a moment before he was expelled, “I speak to you with respect, damn it.”
The referee translated the word “damn” to mean something other than what it was intended, as he understood that Bellingham was saying to him, “Damn you,” and this is what he told captain Luka Modric while objecting to the expulsion.
Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the matter after the match, when he said that the referee did not understand the difference between English and Spanish, and therefore sent Bellingham off, and that the Englishman only said “damn”.
Real Madrid can appeal the expulsion to have it overturned, although the position of the Spanish Federation and La Liga remains unknown as to whether the word “damn” warrants expulsion and suspension and support for the referee or the opposite.
