Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool’s management will pay a huge sum in order to persuade Feyenoord to abandon its coach, Arne Slot, to succeed Dutchman Jurgen Klopp as coach of the Reds next season.
Slot’s contract with Feyenoord is still extended until 2026, which prompted Liverpool’s management to enter into negotiations during the past few days to discuss the appropriate financial compensation to accept his departure.
According to Romano, Liverpool will pay up to 15 million euros to Feyenoord for Slot, and thus the coach will become the most expensive Dutch coach in history.
At the same time, the 45-year-old coach will become the second most expensive coach in the history of football in general, after Julian Nagelsmann, whom Bayern Munich paid 25 million euros to include with Leipzig.
It is assumed that the agreement between Liverpool and Feyenoord has almost ended, and it is only a matter of days and the Dutch coach will be officially announced as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield.
It is noteworthy that, despite the large amount paid in Slot, he only achieved two titles throughout his career, which were last season with Feyenoord, which were the Dutch League and the Dutch Cup. This season, he finished runner-up in the league and exited the Champions League in the group stage.
