The match between Portugal and Turkey in the second round of the Euro 2024 groups witnessed the strangest goal ever so far in the competition.
Portugal was leading with an unanswered goal scored by Bernardo Silva, and in the 28th minute the camera was on Joao Cancelo’s face after a wasted opportunity, then returned and everyone found the ball in Turkey’s goal.
After seeing the replay, it became clear that defender Samet Akidan incorrectly returned the ball to the advancing goalkeeper, Altay Binder, so that it passed him and entered the net in a very strange way.
It is noteworthy that this is the sixth self-goal in Euro 2024, noting that throughout the history of the tournament before the German version, only 9 self-goals were scored!
